Instructions for Colonoscopy

Why clean the bowels?

Colonoscopy is an important test to visually observe lesions on the rectum and colon so that colon polyp, colon cancer and other colorectal diseases are identified for finding necessary treatment. For an accurate diagnosis and test, it is essential to clean the bowels. If your bowels are not fully emptied, accurate diagnosis is not possible and the test itself may not be possible. And this may lead to increased cost and time for a re-examination. Therefore, please follow the instructions on laxatives and water consumption & routine and dietary restrictions. 10,000 won will be charged when you request the laxatives again.

Center Operating Hour
Mon.-Fri. : 7:00am - 5:00pm/ Saturday : 7:00am -12:00pm

A week before the test / Disease and Medication

  • If you take antithrombotic or anticoagulant drugs (Aspirin, Astrix, Ticlopidine, Coumadin/Warfarin, etc.), decide whether to stop medications from 7 days before the examination after discussing with the doctor who have prescribed the drugs as the risk of bleeding increases after a biopsy or removal of polyps. In particular, if you take Hypertensive medication, Diabetes medication or Heart medication, check it contains aspirins.
  • If you are taking important medications such as heart medicine (due to surgery, stent or pacemaker insertion), immunodepressants or cirrhosis medication, you should consult your doctor before having a colonoscopy.
  • For those who have had abdominal surgery, colonoscopy is available in six months after the surgery.
  • If you have a manicure (gel) that cannot be cleaned with acetone, oxygen saturation is not measurable. Be sure to remove it before visiting the hospital.

3 days before the test

  • If you are on your period or pregnant/suspected to be pregnant, the test is not possible.
  • In order to clean your bowels, follow the dietary restrictions. If you have foods to be avoided, the test may fail due to the residue remaining inside the bowel.
  • Those who will be receiving sedation colonoscopy should not drive any vehicles, so please use public transportation.
  • Failure to follow the dose instructions may result in residue in your bowels, which may lead to the improper checkup results. You need to get stool like water after taking the last dose.
  • As we are specialized in health examinations, you cannot have a polypectomy. But you can receive the operation at out partner hospital on the day of examination if necessary.
  • Please be sure to return the laxatives you have received when you cancel the colonoscopy.
